So what is Alessia?
Alessia is a science-fiction fantasy campaign setting set in an evolving universe where humans are but one of many evolving species in the universe and aliens have long influenced the world around them.
Heavily inspired by eastern traditions (and especially Wuxia), Alessia is a place where science has begun to unravel the marvelous, where the powers of the mind are very real, and where spells work side-by-side with energy weapons.
It's also a place of cooperation; even with their occasional petty conflicts, the species who call Alessia home long ago evolved beyond a misplaced sense of superiority.
Alessia was initially designed for the 5th edition of the world's most popular roleplaying game, although we're currently adapting it to the Starfinder Roleplaying Game. We plan to have editions ready for both systems when we release.
Is this for 5e or Statfinder?
What does this add to my 5e game?
What does this add to my Starfinder game?
Science.
fantasy.
Fifth edition fans are going to discover eleven new species including details about their culture, their origins, their powers, and how they fit into the larger world ...whether you use them in Alessia or in a realm beyond.
You're also going to discover four new classes that are custom built for Alessia, but which easily work in nearly any science fiction setting that uses the 5e rules.
GMs and players will also discover new alternate rules, new spells, new skills, new equipment, new backgrounds, and specialized mechanics designed to help them build, pilot, and customize a wide array of vehicles, including skyships.
Finally, the World of Alessia Campaign Primer will include extensive lore about the planet, its inhabitants, and the orbiral ring that surrounds it.
Starfinder fans are going to discover eleven new species including details about their culture, their origins, their powers, and how they fit into the larger world ...whether you use them in Alessia or in a realm beyond.
You're also going to discover four new classes to add to your Stafinder game that expands your crew, its abilities, and more.
Starfinder GMs will discover new spells, new equipment, new build information for Voidships, and more mechanics to help them customize their characters so they feel 'right at home.'
Finally, the World of Alessia Campaign Primer will include extensive lore about the planet, its inhabitants, and the orbiral ring that surrounds it.
Why Wuxia?
Wuxia has been inspiring the West for centuries and Alessia continues to celebrate its heroic and honorific approach to adventuring from the surface to sky. Players will discover new rules that allow them to burn resolve to shrug off assaults, perform stunts that bring the cinematic elements to the fore of your game, add dice to their tension pools, and then throw those drama dice to enhance their attacks or actions.
The Church of Light dominates nearly all of civilized Alessia.
The Cult of Galgaræ takes many forms, but always embraces a doctrine with roots buried deep in the darkness.
The official emblem of the Empire of Xian shows the fall of Galgaræ.
The Emerald Collective is as old as the Velestrians who call the eternally green their home.
Dimensional raiders who have emerged from the shadows between the stars, the Shadows of Venn are feard throughout Alesssia.
Why Scifantasy?
What does the future hold?
When Jere first brought Alessia to me, I didn't fully understand his vision or plans for the World of Alessia, but after several months of daily discussions, he eventually showed me what he had in mind.
I've been merging my magic and tech for nearly twenty years, so his vision was easy for me to grasp and implement. Oh, and could I include ancient celestial dragons, mind powers, and a crashed alien vessel? You betcha.
We wanted to take our science fiction deeper into the mystical, but without forgetting our foundations. The people of Alessia apply their science to their magic, as well as to their minds. That discipline makes the wonders of this world possible.
That depends largely on our backers, to be honest! While none of us dived into Alessia knowing it would be cheap, we also dived in hoping to rapidly expand our vision of a different kind of world to a new community of gamers who simply want a different kind of space.
Of course, to look into Alessia's future, we also need to look at its past; because of its unique history and early integration with alien life, the current social state of the World of Alessia is much different than the one many of us know today.
We fully expect (and want to) expand Alessia beyond the Ring of Heaven and out into space. In fact, one of the interesting things about Alessia is one of its three moons hangs low in orbit, sharing the larger planet's atmosphere, although with a number of environmental changes to the surface of the moon.
